Guatemala -A special country with many Faces

Guatemala.

With an estimated population of around 15.8 million, it is the most populated state in Central America. Located at the southern tip of Mexico between the Carribean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, Guatemala has a total area of 108,890 square kilometers  (42,042 square miles), slightly smaller than that of the state of Tennessee in the U.S.A. . For a country of that size it has a lot to offer for tourists:

To the north and west it is bordered by Mexico.

Close to the Borderline you will find the biggest Mayan Pyramid on earth as well as Tikal, one of the largest archaeological sites, deep in the jungle of the Péten region.

To the southwest you´ve got the Pacific Ocean:

Long black beaches and nice surf spots like El Paredon.

To the northeast you´ve got the Caribbean and Belize to the east.

You can do a day trip from Rio Dulce Town to Livingston, a town you can only reach by river or ocean (I haven´t been there yet)

In the center of the country, in the middle of the jungle, you will find Semuc Champey, a natural monument which consists of a natural 300 m limestone bridge, under which passes the Cahabón River. It also forms many natural infinity pools.

To the south the city Antigua is located which served as the capital of the Kingdom Guatemala and is one if the most beautiful citys I´ve ever been to.

From here, you can hike up the Vulcano Acatenango – A trip you will remember for your lifetime!

Only a two hour drive away is the Lake Atitlán – the deepest lake in Central America with a maximum depth of about 340 metres. It is a really magic place and attracted many hippies in the 1960s as well.
